ABOUT
NIMBAYA! is a daring response to taboos stretching back thousands of years. Never before had women played the djembe in West Africa, the instrument being historically reserved for male players. The women of NIMBAYA are recognized for their exceptional command of traditional Guinean percussion instruments; notably the djembé, balaphone and dundun—as well as for their ability to seamlessly fuse contemporary sounds with deep-rooted ancestral
Traditions.Through their mesmerizing performances, marked by vibrant rhythms, powerful vocals, and electrifying dance, NIMBAYA has earned its place on both national and international stages.
NIMBAYA is not just music—it is a voice for women, a symbol of resilience, and a beacon of inspiration for the world. More than a performance ensemble, NIMBAYA uses music as a tool for empowerment, addressing important themes such as gender equality, education, and cultural preservation.
Beyond the spotlight, NIMBAYA’s members are deeply committed to education and community engagement, leading workshops and participating in youth programs to pass on their passion for music and culture to the next generation.
