ABOUT

French tenor Benjamin Bernheim’s recent seasons have established him as a regular guest artist at Europe’s leading opera houses, including the Opéra national de Paris, Wiener Staatsoper, Staatsoper Berlin, Teatro alla Scala, and the Royal Opera House where he performs leading tenor roles from the romantic repertoire. Garnering high praise with both his performances and recordings, he has been hailed as  “The most beautiful tenor voice since Luciano Pavarotti” by the Süddeutsche Zeitung, and “the new star tenor” by Diapason. In 2020, he was named “Artiste Lyrique de l’Année” (Opera Singer of the Year) at the Les Victoires de la Musique Awards in France and Singer of the Year by Oper! Magazin.

Mr. Bernheim’s 2022/23 includes Des Grieux (Manon) at the Staatsoper Hamburg, Duca (Rigoletto) at the Wiener Staatsoper and then at the Metropolitan Opera where he makes his house debut, Rodolfo (La bohème) at the Wiener Staatsoper, and his debut as Roméo in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, first in concert with the Orchestre de chambre de Genève, followed by a staged production at Opernhaus Zürich. His season concludes with Lensky (Eugene Onegin) at Opernhaus Zürich, and a new production of Roméo et Juliette at the Opéra national de Paris. On the concert stage, Mr. Bernheim makes his house debut at the Opéra national du Rhin in Verdi’s Requiem, and he performs in recitals at the Opéra national de Bordeaux, Oper Frankfurt, Opéra national du Rhin, at the Prinzregententheater, as part of the Munich Opera Festival, the Verbier Festival and at the Salzburger Festspiele.

BENJAMIN BERNHEIM FILLED THE AUDITORIUM WITH A SOUND THAT WAS POWERFUL, BEAUTIFUL AND INTELLIGENT. HIS MIDDLE VOICE, ELEGANT AND RINGING AS ON THE RECORDINGS, RISES INTO AN UPPER REGISTER OF AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT QUALITY, AND THAT’S WHEN IT GETS EXCITING. HE’S A LYRIC TENOR WHO ROARS ON TOP WITH GENUINELY THRILLING, AUDITORIUM-FILLING SOUND.”
