Extremely prolific he enjoys facing the challenge of the many worlds created by directors with the desire to excel by always giving his music a unique feel, a refined orchestration which defines the richness of his writing. His musical eclectism, inherited from his cultural mix, a Greek mother a French father allows him to mix World music or Jazz instrumentation in his scores for Argo or The Grand Budapest Hotel or in his Chamber music score for Jacques Audiard’s A self made Hero.
During the recording of his first feature film, Alexandre Desplat met the violinist Dominique « Solrey » Lemonnier, starting an exceptional artistic exchange. She became his favourite soloist, artistic director and wife. She has influenced Alexandre Desplat’s composition profoundly, creating a new way of using strings in film music.
Two times Academy Award winner for his soundtrack to Guillermo del Toro’s Shape of Water and to Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel, nine times Academy Awards nominee, Alexandre Desplat has already won two Golden Globes, two Grammy Awards, three Baftas, three Cesars and numerous other distinctions. He has become one of the most brilliant composers of his generation.
